Committee News
Kevin Hensley
Chair, Transportation Committee
Welcome to Focus On Transportation!
Transportation touches every part of our communities鈥攕treets, sidewalks, bridges, bike lanes, and everything in between. 色欲AV鈥檚 Transportation Committee is here to support public works professionals tackling these challenges every day, and we鈥檙e excited to share some of the resources available to you this month.
Our committee focuses on practical, real-world transportation topics like roadway safety, speed management, winter maintenance, sustainability, and federal transportation issues. We work to develop education, share best practices, and create opportunities for collaboration across the profession.
One recent area of focus is helping agencies understand and prepare for changes in the 11th Edition of the MUTCD. We鈥檝e developed two Click, Listen & Learn (CLL) programs, available through the 色欲AV Resource Center to help make implementation easier at the local level.

We鈥檙e also continuing conversations around speed management and roadway safety with our upcoming CLL, offering education that explores how agencies can balance mobility and safety for all users while reflecting community context and goals.
If you鈥檙e looking for transportation-related tools, webinars, publications, or conference sessions, I encourage you to explore the 色欲AV Resource Center, where you鈥檒l find a diverse library of transportation resources.
Join us at PWX during our Transportation Jam session, where we鈥檒l be facilitating an exercise to help identify the top ten transportation issues facing public works professionals. Finally, we鈥檙e always looking for members who want to get involved. If you鈥檙e interested in transportation topics and want to help shape future education and resources, we鈥檇 love to hear from you. Send an email to TC@apwa.org.
Thanks for all you do to keep our communities moving safely and efficiently.

CPII: Elevate Your Transportation Inspection Skills
As you tap into 色欲AV鈥檚 transportation resources, consider taking the next step that reinforces these skills in practice: the Certified Public Infrastructure Inspector (CPII).
The CPII focuses on the transportation鈥憆elated tasks inspectors perform every day, including at鈥慻rade construction (paving, curb and gutter, sidewalks), work zone traffic control and signals, pavement markings, and erosion control. It also emphasizes essential inspection responsibilities such as materials verification, measurement and testing, and field documentation. These competencies are foundational to delivering safe, high鈥憅uality, and compliant transportation projects.
