One É«ÓûAV member currently serving on the Transportation Committee or one of the subcommittees, appointed by the President-Elect, may serve two, three-year terms.

The subcommittee shall promote AASHTO’s safety goal of reducing highway fatalities by half in the next two decades; Promote the benefits of State Strategic Highway Safety Plans and the Highway Safety Manual; Work on technical issues such as developing, updating or commenting on various highway manuals, plans, and programs to improve safety; Assist in the delivery & evaluation of safety counter measures; Promote research to develop new safety counter measures; Recommend new policies for the Standing Committee to enact; Support the Standing Committee in reviewing Federal guidance, regulations, legislation, and programs; Assist with nominations and scoring of the AASHTO Safety Leadership Award.

Involves one meeting a year (3 days) and an annual written report to the É«ÓûAV Board of Directors. Appointee is responsible for expenses.
